Klean Strip Green Denatured Alcohol

Email from Rocky, 11-20-10:

Jim,

Another widely distributed brand of high-ethanol-content denatured alcohol is "Klean Strip Green Denatured Alcohol", from the same people that make S-L-X. The "Green" part is important. "Made from 95% Natural & Renewable Resources".

MSDS states the Ethanol Concentration at 90.0 - 100.0% (somehow I doubt the second number).

$7.49/quart at my local Orchard Supply Hardware.

Be sure to get the Green labeled cans.

Klean Strip Green Denatured Alcohol

Postby Jim Wood » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:58 am

Rocky -

Thanks very much for the heads up. I was not aware of this product and look forward to trying it. Not only should it be less toxic than their standard version (much lower methanol %), but should also burn hotter because of the higher ethanol content. I also don't see water listed as an ingredient in the MSDS (as in some other high-ethanol denatured alcohols I tried in the past), so it should burn cleanly.

I'll update the Super Cat article for this product once I've had a chance to experiment with it.

Thanks again...

Best regards,
Jim Wood.

Klean strip green alcohol testing

Postby Blue52 » Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:17 pm

Hello , Great little stove. I have just started experimenting with the super cat stove. I modified the port/jet set up while using the new Klean strip green alcohol. Pretty good results. Outside air temps from 40 to 70 degrees getting some sub 5min- 5:30 boil times using imusa aluminum 0.7qt pot with 2 cups of water. Starting with water temperature that's the same as the ambient air temperature.

Indoors at ambient air temps around 69 -70 with water temps around 60degrees it will boil 2 cups under 4min @ 3:45 including prime, of course the totally still air helps... Total burn time of 6:45.

Modified port Super cat out door test 2, 45 degree ambient air temp

Klean Strip Green denatured alcohol

Postby Blue52 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 2:25 pm

Hello Jim,

I have been experimenting with the super cat stove design for about a week now. First with Heet the I switched to The klean strip green denatured alcohol . First batch seemed okay But My second batch I bought was dirty burning and really smelly. It put black soot all over everything. Went back to Heet. I'm going to try and find air brake anti freeze locally and give it ago.

Would like to share what I have come up with so far in experimenting with the Super Cat Stove. I call it the Super Cat After Burner, that's what the flame and heated screen looks like to me, a Jet After Burner. Still needs more testing before I post the video boil times getting some strange times. Sub 3min - 14 min. So far 1 oz heet 4 min. on average with the three stack at sea level with ambient air temps or 45 degrees Fahrenheit . No wind screen needed hopefully and stackable for different burn characteristics. Would like to try this at moderate altitude 4-5,000 feet -40F degrees.

Sorry for the double post . In regards to AfterBurner on youtube. Had an issue with music copy right and ads. Don't know why ads are showing up on my video. I didn't sign up for them . So tried to repost but with same out come.

Here's the new link to same video, if interested.
